Sidnei & Zach's Wedding - July 2019

If you come through Annapolis and drive on Generals Highway maybe you've noticed a little place called the Annapolis Wedding Chapel. I recently got to do photos there for Sidnei and Zach's wedding there. It's a little cottage / chapel with beautifly landscaped gardens and grounds, and it's a really fun place to do a photo shoot. Almost like a mini-golf playground for photos with numerous rustic props & kitchy signs. A very charming woodland setting.

Zach is an old friend, Sidnei is a new one. When they hired me to photograph their intimate wedding with only their close family in attendance at the Annapolis Wedding Chapel, I was all-in. Prior to the wedding we made a plan to meet-up and tour the locations of their big day. This gave us a good chance to familiarize ourselves with the sites and come up with some plans. Meeting's like this are a great way to share ideas and get a little more comfortable working together. Also the communicating in person can be a lot clearer than in emails or texts. I was appreciative that they took the time to show me their vision.

The day of the wedding: We started with their garden ceremony. Next we did a bunch of portraits and family groups. Then we departed for the wedding reception at The Severn Inn for food, festivities, and more portraits. Our July sun was clear and bright. There was a warm breeze on the Severn River that day. A really nice day for a sweet couple. I'm pleased with the resulting photos, and Sidnei and Zach said they are as well.

Indian Wedding Event

As an 8 yr. old child I had the unique privelage of visitng India with my family. We spent a month staying with my grandfather who lived in Hyderabad. We moved around sightseeing in places like Mumbai and New Delhi and even were guests at a lavish wedding of my relative's friends.. It was the first time I'd travelled outside the U.S. and it made a tremendous impression on me. Inspired by it all I have a great respect for India's history and culture and really enjoy the vibrant wedding customs.

A few years a go I photographed 1st day wedding events for couple Dipsha & Daniel's wedding in Cambridge, MD. They were awesome to work with, and the family reached out again for younger brother Ravi's grooms blessing at the family's home in Fairfax, VA. It was a great chance to reunite and capture another unique event for my clients.

Naval Academy Retiremen

Something I especially enjoy about photography is the access and the relationships it of fosters. I get to see things I otherwise wouldn't and connect with people on some of their life's best moments. When my friend Erin asked me to photograph her retirement party I assumed it was going to be a relatively informal event. Erin and I became friends a few years back sharing an appreciation for the people and the conversation at our favorite spot outside the USNA gates -Galway Bay Irish Pub and Restaurant. I knew she worked at the academy and I had some idea her role was significant but mostly we'd talk about non-work stuff. A Navy Captain, Erin worked for the US Naval Academy office of the Superintendent. She's a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps and served as the Superintendents professional lawyer. Erin's also a USNA graduate who's travelled the world and settled back in Annapolis with her family to hold this important position. Circuitous and symbolic that she was ending her service career where it began here in Annapolis.

The ceremony included speeches from colleagues, her boss (the Superintendent), our guest of honor, a marching color guard, bell ringing, and finally this crossing of a symbolic bridge from service to civilian life. It was fantastic to see all of this and I left feeling admiration and respect for these officers and their service. We went to the pub afterward and toasted to her bright future.
